A 4-day, 3-night Okinawa main island plan for a family of eight: two adults, a baby, a preschooler, three elementary-age children and a teenager. You fly into Naha Airport, rent an 8-seat car, stay three nights in Onna Village and visit the Churaumi Aquarium and Okinawa Zoo without moving your luggage. Every fare, opening hour and room capacity below was checked on official pages, not from personal experience.

Who this plan is for

This is a research-based itinerary built from official sources. We have not stayed at or visited these places for this article. It is written for families visiting Japan with kids of different ages who want to decide quickly where to stay, how to move and what it costs for eight people.

  • Stay three nights in one resort in Onna Village. It is about 60 minutes by car from Naha Airport, and both the northern aquarium and the central zoo are roughly an hour away. You move eight suitcases only on day 1 and day 4.
  • Eight people do not fit in one room. The resort’s official room pages list a maximum of 5 guests in Japanese-style rooms and 4 to 7 in connecting rooms. Plan on two rooms.
  • Build the days around places where kids are free. Churaumi Aquarium is free under age 6. Okinawa Zoo (Okinawa Kodomo no Kuni) is free for anyone 15 and under.

Split options and shortcuts

  • Day 2 split: one adult stays with the baby and preschooler near the nursing room and theater, the other takes the elementary kids and teenager through the aquarium and on to the playground. Meet at lot P3 or P5 at a set time.
  • Day 3 split: if the teenager is bored by the animals, one adult takes them into the Wonder Museum first while the rest see the animal areas.
  • Shortcut: cut day 3 to the morning only, and on day 4 skip Blue Seal and the museum and drive from the hotel straight to the car return.

Tickets, fares, luggage and connectivity

  • Airport to hotel without a car: the airport limousine bus takes about 70 minutes, 1,700 yen per adult and 850 yen per child aged 3 to under 12. Getting eight seats and eight bags on the same bus is the problem, so this plan assumes a car.
  • Aquarium by bus: about 2 hours 30 minutes from Naha Airport. Not practical with a stroller and eight people.
  • Rental car: choose a company that lets you specify an 8-seat vehicle and two child seats online. Japanese law requires child seats for children under 6.
  • Payment: aquarium and zoo fees above are the official cash prices. Carry some yen for the soba shop, which lists no payment methods.
  • Connectivity: most of the pages linked below are Japanese only and change seasonally. A Japan eSIM lets you check hours and typhoon closures on the day. Get a Japan eSIM for your trip

Hotel check for a large family

Japanese hotels count every guest against the room’s maximum, and whether a baby who co-sleeps is counted depends on the hotel. Renaissance Okinawa Resort lists capacities on its official room page but not bed counts, co-sleeping rules or cribs, so confirm those by phone or on the booking screen. Rooms are Western or Japanese style; in Japanese-style rooms you remove shoes at the entrance and sleep on futons laid on tatami.

Two-room example Room A Room B Total
Option 1 Japanese-style Deluxe (5 guests): 1 adult, baby, preschooler, 2 elementary kids Deluxe Twin (4 guests): 1 adult, 1 elementary kid, teenager 8
Option 2 Flippers Connecting (4 to 7 guests): 1 adult, 5 children Superior Twin (4 guests): 1 adult, teenager 8

Children’s rates in Japan are usually set by the hotel, not by age alone. Check whether a child without a bed or meals pays a reduced rate.
